Gina McGuire
On March 31 there was a white, neatly addressed envelope waiting inside our door slot with other mail. Inside we found a very pretty artist design with a typewritten note…

“My name is Gina McGuire and I am twelve years old. I was born on November 1, 1995 in Hawaii. I have lived on top of the Big Island for my whole life. I attend Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii Campus and have attended their art classes since second grade. My preferred style is realistic pictures. My favorite materials to use to express my feelings on paper are watercolor and colored pencils. But my most favorite way to do art is to use a grid and scale a scene to a bigger size. I like to do horse scenes and drawing young children. But, Iʻll take a shot at any type of art you throw at me. Iʻve tried objective abstract, non-objective abstract, clay, watercolor, acrylic, you name it, I will give a good whack at it. I would like to enter “Itʻs a Honu World™” because I believe it is an excellent way to give back to the community. I would also like to share my artwork with others. I would like others to appreciate what I can do. I would like to capture the beauty of Hawaiiʻs environment and share it with you.”
Gina gladly accepted a smaller Honu to paint and she promised many photos of her process.

The Gina McGuire Hero Fund
There is something about Gina. Because she has inspired the Honu World project, we are designating a special collection specifically for Gina to handle. All money raised for the “Gina McGuire Hero Fund” will be put into a specific account.
This collection, along with money raised from bidding on Ginaʻs Honu at the auction will be given to a cause which has been researched and chosen by Gina so that she can “give back to the community.”
