Thanks so much for bringing this wonderful community building
opportunity to the Big Island. I have seen similar art FUNdraising
events in Zürich, Switzerland (cows) and in Port Townsend ,WA
(salmon). In both cities, the work produced was original, thoughtful
and amusing.

As a public art exhibit the Honu will contribute the availability to view local artists work to the general community and visitors. There is very little public art on display on the Island of Hawaii. I hope that this is the beginning of interest in grants and foundations for the arts to arise and more culture to be available here on the streets, in the parks and at the beaches.
After doing a similar project in the City of San Jose several years ago I know the public enjoys the fun and excitement of seeing all the animals about, but on a deeper level I know the arts make a difference by establishing a more related connected community.
The “It’s a Honu World” project is whole, new and complete, contributing to the Big Islands businesses, organizations, artists and the general community symbiotically. This is a grand opportunity for everyone to participate and be connected and I urge everyone to be involved in the event and participate in what ever way possible even if it is as a spectator on the streets and the final auction!

John Dawson is my uncle, and i just wanted to say how proud I am of his work. The family had a GREAT loss in the beginning of the year, but seeing the finished work, “It’s all about Ohana” makes me realize just how lucky I am to be apart of this wonderful family. Life will always swim on! I hope you all enjoy this Honu as much as we do, and realize just how important Ohana is.

My cousins live in Hawaii. I’m looking forward to going to visit them in the near future. It has always been a dream of mine to go and visit the islands, historic sights and museums.

Mahalo for organizing and putting together this fantastic event. We are looking forward to seeing each and every one of the Honu in the upcoming weeks. We have chosen two that we wish to bid for. Public Art is so important and so is donating to the various charities you have associated with the Honu.
Aloha au i Hawai`i!

What a great name for the project. How did you create it? It is a whole new world for the once endangered honu on this island. I’ve seen several of these turtle sculptures around Hawaii Island. Mahalo.
