As the Artist, the Honu’s design ideation is in progress. The intention of the piece will be to impact the viewer to remember that life is a delicate balance. Globally, consciousness is lacking in our actions. We appear to be at very critical cross roads as a civilization, as a country and even as individuals. The Honu will be a symbol of the recreation of balance in the world coming from it is happening now.

Martha Stephens creates expressionistic abstract work for the 21st century. Through mixed media color, texture, shape and line, her intent is to evoke the feelings and emotions of the spirit of life.
Martha Stephens was born in Colorado and raised in San Jose, CA. From a young age, Martha’s family encouraged her to express her creativity. Exploration of nature and travel, as well as the influence of helping others, passionately inspires her various abstract expressionistic series of work.
The “Possibility” and “Unconditional Love” series evoke profound thoughts of life, as well as the absurdities. Her evolving landscape series enhances interior environments with the inspirational beauty of the out of doors and travel to exotic locales. Martha continues to explore the influencing potentials of living and motivations of people by using mixed medias and her own imaginative style.

Studies
In 1985 Martha earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design at San Jose State University with an emphasis in Fine Art. Her studies included Painting in Mixed Mediums and Sculpture in Mixed Mediums including Ceramics, Metal, Wood, Stained Glass and Paper Mache.
Career Experience
Since 1990, Martha has owned and managed her successful design business, Martha Stephens Interior Design. In addition to creating and selling Fine Art she designs and manages both remodels and new construction projects for residential and commercial clients. She specializes in custom, artistic design.

Awards and Achievements
2000 – From the American Society of Interior Designers, CA Peninsula Chapter, she received the Retail Interior Award of Excellence for her design of the Domus store in Pleasanton, CA.
1999 – Founding Member of the Vibrant Palette. The Mission of the Vibrant Palette is to encourage each other as women artists, to develop new forms, of expression, make a context for it and share opportunities for exposure.
1995 – Elected Delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business, Washington DC
1995 – Member of the Year Award – National Assoc. of Women Business Owners, NAWBO Silicon Valley
1992 – Founding Member of the Collaboratory Artist Group, San Jose
